Real Wedding – Rachael and Ben’s Country Wedding at Mythe Barn December 19, 2018

Rachael and Ben had their hearts set on a barn wedding close to home. Discover how they created their dream day at Leicestershire wedding venue, Mythe Barn.

Location, location, location

Having hunted through countless barn venues, Rachael and Ben had found plenty of rustic settings but none in their preferred postcodes.

“After browsing wedding magazines, Instagram and online, we came across Mythe Barn and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t found it sooner. It was only half an hour from home,” Rachael recalls.

“When we arrived at Mythe Barn we were greeted in the Cart Barn. This is the lobby/bar area and I remember thinking how beautiful it was. I fell in love straight away! Ben just looked at me and laughed and said, ‘By the look on your face, do we even need to look around?'”

Homespun style

This couple’s DIY efforts began with the wedding invitations, which were made by the groom.

“Ben is a big handy man and said he’d like to make some decorations for our wedding. He created a table plan ladder, an easel for our welcome sign and together we spray-painted bottles to become vases.”

Painted by Katie provided a bespoke sign with gold writing to complement the rustic Leicestershire wedding venue and the couple’s gold and blush colour scheme.

The couple entrusted their wedding flowers to Hannah from Bloom Fleuriste.

“When Hannah arrived at our wedding venue in Leicestershire with the van stacked full of flowers I was so excited! The venue smelt amazing filled with fresh flowers, which really complemented the barn’s rustic style.”

Dress of dreams

Rachael stepped down the aisle at Mythe Barn wearing a Stella York gown from The Bridal Boutique Warwickshire.

“This was the last boutique I visited and having tried so many dresses on and not found the one, I felt a little upset. The girls really put me at ease and when they laid out my train to see, I gasped! I loved everything about the dress – the keyhole back, lace detail and neckline…”

The bride accessorised with Rainbow Club shoes, her favourite perfume and diamond and pearl earrings.

Her bridesmaids joined her wearing the ‘Salma’ design by Ghost in the chic oyster colourway.

Here comes the groom

“My only request when it came to the groom and groomsmen outfits was that they wear matching shoes,” Rachael laughs. “Ben didn’t understand what the fuss was about at the time, but looking back on the photos now he does.”

The groom looked dapper in a slim-fit navy suit from Moss Bros.

Romantic soundtracks

“We hired Something Acoustic to perform during the ceremony and drinks reception. I chose Ellie Goulding’s ‘How Long Will I Love You’ for my walk down the aisle. Live music really does create the most romantic atmosphere,” Rachael recommends.

“I was the most nervous I’ve ever been before walking down the aisle. It’s a strange feeling because I didn’t know exactly why I was nervous. But, as soon as I saw Ben waiting at the end of the aisle with a beaming smile, it put me at ease. It’s such an exciting and amazing feeling when you’re about to marry your best friend.”

Dinner and dancing

The expert on-site catering team cook up a storm for celebrations at Mythe Barn and Rachael and Ben’s wedding was no exception.

“Food was a big factor for us choosing our Leicestershire wedding venue. We absolutely love to eat out and try different restaurants, so it was important that our wedding menu reflected this. The food at Mythe Barn was delicious – the beef melted in your mouth! It was perfectly presented and tasted amazing.”

After the feast, the newlyweds shared their first dance to ‘The One’ by Kodaline in the romantic setting of their wedding venue in Leicestershire.

10 Reasons for a Spring Wedding December 27, 2016

There are so many things we love about spring. After a long winter, the warmer temperatures and spring sunshine are welcomed – as is the landscape, as gardens transform with new colour and fragrance. It’s changes like these that make the season perfect for a wedding, along with a whole host of other perks…

1. A choice of swoon-worthy colour palettes

With combinations including rose quartz and Chantilly blue; blush and gold, and mint and yellow, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to your wedding colours. The lighter, brighter tones of spring are oh-so-feminine and bound to make any wedding look chic.

2. Casual eats and relaxed dining

With the temperatures a little milder, it’s the perfect time of year to head outside. Warm up guests for the season ahead with a delicious barbecue. Soak up the atmosphere as chefs cook up an Asian feast outside. You’ve also got a great excuse to serve up ice cream treats or tasty cream teas from a fab food truck.

3. Suppliers are less in-demand than in the summer

Got your eye on a leading local photographer? Left some of your supplier bookings until the last minute? If you’re getting wed in spring, it will be a little easier to secure your favourite suppliers. Unlike the summer months, where you’ll find some suppliers getting booked up two years in advance, spring wedding dates are more widely available. With more availability come potential discounts too!

4. Venues are in full bloom

What better backdrop for your wedding photos than a glorious venue in full bloom? During the spring months, gardens are usually at their best. There’s plenty of colour and visual interest – both adding to the charm and romance of your day.

5. Plenty of great honeymoon destinations to choose from

If, like most newlyweds, you’re planning a honeymoon straight after the wedding, you’re in luck. Spring is one of the best times to get away. Prices are still reasonable – as the kids aren’t on their holidays yet – and a huge number of destinations are at their best too. Visit Japan during its famous cherry blossom season; head to Florida’s theme parks for some early summer sun, or take it easy on one of Europe’s gorgeous beaches. It’s a great time for a UK-based mini-moon too.

Whether you’ve adopted a soft, muted colour scheme or something more vibrant, you’ll find the perfect flowers for your wedding. We love narcissi, hyacinths, ranunculus and anemone… to name but a few.

There’s something extra special about getting married during the spring months. As it’s all about rebirth and renewal, it’s the best season to start your next chapter together as a married couple.

8. The perfect temperature

Let’s face it, most of us dream of a wedding day that’s sunny and mild yet not too hot or too cold. Spring offers some of the best British weather and comfortable temperatures – ensuring your man’s not too hot in his suit and you’re not shivering in your dress.

9. Better availability on wedding dates

During the summer months, it can be difficult to secure a weekend wedding date – with some couples reserving dates years in advance. In spring, however, you’ll have a much better selection of dates – especially if you book 12 months in advance. Venues may offer discounts too on certain spring wedding dates – so there’s really nothing to lose!

10. An opportunity for an al fresco affair

Dreaming of an outdoor ceremony in picturesque gardens and grounds? Spring is one of the best seasons to get married outside – with the temperature just right and surroundings in full bloom. A selection of our venues have an outdoor ceremony license – and those that don’t still allow you to enjoy a glorious drinks reception outside.

Children At Weddings: The Big Debate December 17, 2016

Compiling the guest list has to be one of the most challenging elements of wedding planning. Do you invite family you haven’t seen in years? What about colleagues; should they get an invite to your day? Perhaps the most difficult decision of all is whether to have children at your wedding. In today’s blog post, we help you make that crucial decision and give tips on catering to your littlest guests.

Three reasons for kids at weddings

1. To minimise fuss and keep guests happy

Let’s face it, there are already enough things to sort out as a bride – let alone telling friends and family that kids are banned. Often, including children at weddings is the easiest and simplest option.

2. They can be a cute addition to your day

There’s no doubting that your littlest guests will be extremely cute – when they’re not high on wedding cake! They add a lovely touch to all your wedding photos and can make a special addition to your wedding party too.

3. For the perfect party

Kids are fearless and often boast that confidence we all wish we had on the dance floor. With children around, you needn’t worry about your dance floor being empty – they’re sure to have a ball! Children help create that light-hearted atmosphere and are sure to make you and your guests giggle.

Three reasons against kids at weddings

1. You’ve opted for a posh black-tie wedding

Some weddings just aren’t kid-friendly. If you’ve opted for a posh, formal affair, with free-flowing champagne, it may not be suitable for younger guests.

2. They can be rather noisy and restless

Children love to get attention – and sometimes they’ll do everything they can to get what they want. If you’re worried about children screaming during your ceremony or little guests causing a scene during the wedding breakfast, it may be worth cutting them from your guest list.

3. You’re on a tight budget

Little guests do come at a cost. While many wedding venues offer meals at half the price for kids, this still adds up. If you’re on a tight budget and looking for an easy way to cut costs, banning kids may be your answer.

For those of you opting for a child-free wedding, it’s best to address the topic early. Clear, friendly communication with wedding guests is essential. As soon as you send out your initiations, make guests aware of your child-free intentions. For example, list the names of your guests on the invitation but not “and family” or the names of their children. It’s also a good idea to follow up the invitation with a call to explain why you’ve chosen not to invite children to your day. This will also allow parents ample time to arrange childcare.
