A new era for Combermere’s Pavilion

Combermere Abbey is one of the most celebrated venues in the Artemis collection. Set within a 900-year-old Cheshire estate, it offers something rare: a setting that feels genuinely historic, yet entirely at ease with the demands of a modern wedding. 

This year, we’re investing in the venue’s future whilst honouring its storied past with a brand-new Pavilion. We’re so excited to share this new chapter with you!

The heart of Combermere weddings 

The Pavilion is where weddings at Combermere truly come to life. Following a ceremony in the Edwardian Glasshouse or outside in the grounds, receptions take place in and around The Pavilion. 

Located within the estate’s historic Walled Gardens, it brings the beauty of the surrounding landscape indoors. The ground beneath The Pavilion has been cultivated, cherished and transformed over three centuries. The Walled Gardens date back to the 18th century, originally tended by a large team who grew flowers, fruit and vegetables for the main house, and later turned over to grow produce during wartime scarcity. 

When Sarah Callander Beckett returned to the estate in 1992, the revival began. The maze was planted, the gardens were carefully brought back to life, and the Pavilion found its home at the heart of it all. The new Pavilion is simply the next chapter in that story. 

What’s changing 

A completely new structure will be built in the same much-loved setting, at ground level for a more natural connection with the surrounding gardens. Modern materials and improved insulation mean the space will be genuinely comfortable in every season. A new terrace and paving area will feel in keeping with the grounds, while thoughtfully designed interiors complement the estate’s character. A state-of-the-art finishing kitchen will enable synchronised, seamless service at the highest level. 

Everything couples love about Combermere, from the historic setting to the sense of intimacy, the connection to the landscape, will still be there. However, these details will now be matched by significantly improved interiors, service capability and guest comfort. 

Responsible stewardship 

The new Pavilion is not a cosmetic refresh; it’s a considered act of stewardship. Transient by design, it will sit lightly on the land it calls home, meaning it could one day be lifted away without leaving a trace.  

Every decision, from interiors to climate control, has been made intentionally with sustainability, heritage, and guest experience in mind. 

A commitment that runs across everything we do 

The new Pavilion at Combermere Abbey represents one of the most significant investments we have made in a single venue, but it reflects something that runs much deeper. 

At Artemis, we believe that exceptional weddings and events begin with exceptional spaces. That means constantly raising the standard, investing in our venues, refining the guest experience, and ensuring that every couple who chooses one of our venues receives the full Artemis experience. The new Pavilion is a direct expression of that belief. 

Every element of this project has been guided by the same principles we apply across our portfolio: quality, care and a genuine commitment to doing things properly. We are proud to be making this investment at Combermere, and we cannot wait for couples to experience what it becomes.
